Advertising via android
Just like those annoying pop-up messages and other forms of online advertising, mobile phones are no stranger to this form of advertising. Specifically, Android devices are becoming targets for ads that get onto the devices via Android apps. Many of these apps also have software that places marketing icons on your start screen. Many Android phone users are finding these icons and wondering how on earth they got there. Many of the apps provide no prior warning about these ads.
These ads are known as push notification ads and icon ads. Push notification ads place small alerts on the notification bar of the Android phone. When the notification is selected, an ad appears. Icon ads are a bit different as they are icons placed on the start screen. Selecting the icon will open a web page with an advertisement.
Many consumers are unaware that these ads can appear on their phones. Generally they don’t know because the issue isn’t discussed by web developers. When owners of Android devices such as the Motorola Droid Razr, HTC Sensation and others learn of this invasion of their device, they want to know how to stop it. Well, there are some steps users can take to help them in this vain.
Many of the culprits do claim they offer their website address. By going here, users can opt out of receiving their ads. However, often this information is not easy to find. IT can also be difficult to determine who exactly placed the ad. When you do get to some sites, you’re required to input information that you simply might not know where to find. For instance, one advertiser, Air Push, asks users input their phone’s IMEI number in order to opt out of their ads. However, most people do not even know what an IMEI number is and Air Push doesn’t provide assistance to them to find it.
